I have always loved stories and pictures and the relationship between them.
I grew up in Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison with a BA in Communication Arts, focusing on film and film production. At the UW I was introduced very briefly to the world of 3D Animation. Toy Story had only just come out and absolutely amazed me. Intrigued by the possibilities of this new fusion of art and technology, I packed my bags and headed to Vancouver, BC to continue my studies in Digital Animation at Vancouver Film School.
As I worked my way into the field of 3D and VFX I began to meander from animation and focused more and more on digital texture painting, which came more naturally to me. I moved to Los Angeles for awhile and then onto London, England where I lived for several years working on feature films at various studios. When the wave of VFX work moved to the "Hollywood of the north", I came full circle and moved back to Vancouver and have been here for the last 5 years.
I now have two amazing children and they have inspired me to develop a new path as a picture book Author/Illustrator. I've started to write and draw. I've always had sketchbooks, but now I am compelled to get my own stories and ideas out into the world and share them. I've been practicing different techniques and creatively challenging myself in new ways, mostly in those evening hours after work when the kids are in bed. Little by little I've been working to create a portfolio and put stories together, and after many late nights my first picture book Mae and the Moon was released, and my upcoming book Seb and the Sun will be published in 2018. I am so happy to be a part of the amazing world of kid's lit!
